Scott and I were shocked and saddened by the news that a recent guest on Growth Igniters® Radio, Dr. Gail Hayes, unexpectedly passed away after a brief illness. She was a Race Relations Consultant, Speaker, award-winning book author, and media personality. (see bio below).
To honor Dr. Gail’s memory, we are revisiting the entire conversation we had with her in the Fall of 2020. We discussed the compelling business case for building bridges to promote racial equity in the constantly shifting environment, why we need more than good intentions to overcome systemic racism, and immediately actionable ideas for working together on problem-solving.
About Dr. Gail Hayes
Dr. Gail Hayes was a Race Relations Consultant, Speaker, award-winning book author, and media personality who passed away in January 2021 after a brief illness. She was internationally recognized as a communicator who ignited the atmosphere with contagious enthusiasm and a passion for purpose.
She has been called a Conduit and Bridge between Races, genders, generations, and political parties because of her unique ability to paint pictures with words to promote racial equity and understanding between communities. She served on the Advisory Council of the American Diversity Report and enjoyed helping organizations create new ways of doing business in today’s changing culture.
She was also an Executive Leadership and Book Coach, and media personality. Because she lived in Asia for over four years and in Europe for twelve years, she also communicated across cultural lines and often spoke on diversity and race relations. She also served as the first Black female law enforcement officer and firefighter in Chapel Hill, NC and as the first Black Chair of the Orange County Commission for Women and was recognized by the governor for her work.
While living in Europe, Dr. Gail also founded and served as the Director of the European Executive Women’s Forum, the first active European Network of the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE). In addition, she served as a training consultant for the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) European Training Division, where she specialized in Leadership, Management/Employee Relations, Customer Service Excellence and Workplace Conflict Resolution for a multi-national workforce for US Military EEO and EO programs for civilian and military personnel in the European and Korean Command.
