Like many of the leaders we speak with, you may often encounter conflict as part of our constantly changing business environment. Of course, conflict in and of itself is not bad. In the end, it’s what we do with the conflict that matters. In this “Quick Take” episode, we discuss the choices we can all can make for leading through conflict. Depending on the context, sometimes our approach can be more combative; sometimes it can be softer.
Something you may not know about us is that our exposure to martial arts and our training in Aiki Jujitsu has influenced some of our leadership philosophy. This is especially true about our approach to conflict. We’ve seen how the spirit of Aiki Jujitsu applies to engaging with others in new ways. This includes acknowledging each other’s truths, getting curious about what is behind opposing points of view, and redirecting confrontations to look for points of mutual agreement. Remember, the word “aiki” is literally translated as “a fusion of energy.”
