As subscribers of TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) we’ve seen many videos filled with ideas worth spreading. But after attending TEDxAsburyPark 2018, we came away with another idea worth spreading: being there in person and engaging with the other attendees can bring a whole new level of excitement and value.
Appropriately enough, “Passion,” was this year’s theme. There were speakers of all ages representing business leaders, community leaders, celebrities, students, dancers, musicians, poets, and artists. Throughout the day we were moved from laughter and tears to inspiration as they shared their stories of life-changing experiences, insights, and discoveries. However, what we experienced that surprised us was the passion and connection generated from conversations with the speakers and other attendees during lunch and the after-reception.
It’s refreshing to interact with a diverse group of people who are passionate about learning, breaking the status quo, and making the world a better place. Discussing the TEDx experience with people spanning different generations, educational levels, geography, and life experiences broadened our insights, inspired us, and sparked new ideas and connections with others.
If you have an opportunity to attend or participate in some other way in a TED or TEDx event, we highly recommend it. While you must apply to attend a TED event, TEDx events are independent, locally organized and tend to be more open to general attendance. Here is a link to an interactive directory of TEDx events. There are venues all over the world for you to discover. Enjoy!
