Could AI be in Your Company’s Future? Ready Or Not, It’s Here

As you’re planning for 2018, one question to discuss with your team is how Artificial Intelligence could impact your business. Will you be the disruptor or the disrupted?

As you’re considering this, here’s some food for thought: The most recent Wall Street Journal supplement of The Future of Everything features stories on a range of innovations powered by AI that could impact every industry and business – and some that are already in use. For instance, some companies are already using AI to make hiring decisions. (Note: WSJ Subscription required to read full articles)

Like many technologies, AI offers a powerful upside. There’s great potential for sifting through vast arrays of complex information at quantum speed and making recommendations on a heartbeat.

However, as with all technology, AI is only as effective and as the humans who work with it.

No algorithm can replace the nuanced communication necessary for building trust, caring relationships, engagement, commitment, empathy, ethical thinking, and common sense that makes interpreting results and leadership decisions as much an art as a science.

So as you lead your company in decisions about how to respond to the reality of AI in your industry, be sure to include stakeholders into the discussion who can broaden the conversation.

Bringing multiple perspectives to the table will allow you to reflect on how to anticipate and manage implications of AI applications you are considering so they can live up to their full promise.
