This morning we listened to a segment on NPR’s Morning Edition titled “Don’t Think Your Bias Can Boss You Around? David Byrne Says Think Again”
The story was about how Byrne, founder of the rock band Talking Heads, decided to create an experiential theater piece called “The Institute Presents: Neurosociety” at Pace Art + Technology in Menlo Park, California. The experience takes a playful dive into how our brains can be influenced by cognitive biases to draw conclusions and make decisions that may not match up with objective reality (whatever that is). You can listen to the NPR piece by clicking below.
The fact is, no matter how open-minded anyone is, neuroscience has demonstrated that humans are hard-wired for a large number of cognitive biases. The big question is, knowing that these tendencies exist, how can we outsmart our cognitive biases to make more powerful decisions in every aspect of our business and personal lives?
Coincidentally, the answer to this question is the subject of the latest episode of our podcast series, launched this morning before we turned on NPR.
